A memorable event took place on December 17 at Brooklyn Bowl. The Fandiem Holiday Superjam raised money for Music Will, which focuses music education in public schools, as well as the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, which aids both musicians and music industry professionals.

The house band featured Ivan Neville (keys), Tony Hall (bass), Nikki Glaspie (drums), Nick Cassarino (guitar) and Shira Elias (vocals). River Eckert also added keys to a number of tunes. These players infused the evening with a late Night New Orleans Jazz Fest vibe, which was reinforced by an appearance from George Porter Jr., as the heralded bass player appeared on “Just Kissed My Baby” and “Africa” during the first set and later returned for “Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley” and “He Bite Me” during the second frame.

Reggie Watts was also on hand to evoke Whitney Houston during “What’s Love Got to Do With It” and later “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Louis Cato, who also joined Porter for “Africa,” sang lead on Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” and remained for a set-closing “Take Me to the River.” Special guest Craig Robinson later contributed vocals to “Use Me” in set two and was part of the big “Werewolves of London” finale.”
