With all of the chaos that takes place each year on Record Store Day, it’s a good idea to have a wish-list prepared ahead of time. Similar to the mental list each of us carry into every record store we enter, this list serves us for just one day, helping us to navigate the rapidly expanding catalog of limited edition Record Store Day items up for grabs. Below you’ll find the list of records I’ll be hunting for tomorrow.

Animal Collective – Transverse Temporal Gyrus LP

In March 2010, Animal Collective put on a collaborative sound installation with visual artist Danny Perez called ‘Transverse Temporal Gyrus’ at New York City’s Guggenheim Museum. Tomorrow, the group will release a 12" containing the sounds and songs each member recorded before being put through a randomizer at the museum. Pick this one up for all of your weird listening needs.

Blues Magoos – So I’m Wrong And You Are Right / Wild About My Lovin’ / The People 7"

The debut 45 from garage rock band Blues Magoos, “So I’m Wrong and You Are Right” / “The People Had No Faces,” never received the attention it deserved. This new 7" shines a new light on those classic cuts, along with the previously unreleased “Wild About My Lovin’,” recorded during the same studio session. Cut from the original Verve-Folkways mono masters, the exclusive RSD release features the Blues Magoos’ famously lost ’65 session.

Bonnie Prince Billy – Hummingbird LP

The centerpiece of Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s record store day release is a cover of Leon Russell’s “Hummingbird.” Featuring a notable cast of LA musicians, including “Farmer” Dave Scher and the Entrance Band rhythm section of bassist Paz Lenchantin and drummer Derek James, the track was recorded on Russell’s famed Shelter Records soundboard. The release also features a take on the traditional “Tribulations,” along with Merle Haggard’s “Because of Your Eyes.”

Captain Beefheart – Diddy Wah Diddy 7"

This release looks back to the earliest days of Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band’s recording career with their debut singles for A&M Records in 1966. While Beefheart would eventually follow a more avant-garde musical path, these recordings display a bluesier sound on a cover of Bo Diddley’s “Diddy Wah Diddy,” along with originals “Who Do You Think You’re Fooling” and “Frying Pan.”

David Bowie – Starman 7"

A limited picture disc with two versions of Bowie’s “Starman” – one side the original single version, the other a live take originally broadcast on the BBC show ‘Top Of The Pops’ on June 7, 1972.

Gary Clark Jr. – Presents HWUL Raw Cuts Vol. 1 LP

Live cuts from the blues guitar prodigy on a two track LP. Featuring covers of Jimi Hendrix’s “Third Stone From The Sun” and Albert Collins’ “If You Love Me Like You Say” from Charlottesville, VA along with a version of Clark Jr.’s
"Bright Lights" from London, England.

Gene Clark – One In A Hundred / She’s The Kind Of Girl

Featuring two tracks with the original Byrds lineup prior to their self-titled 1973 reunion album.

Genesis – Spot the Pigeon EP

A reissue of Genesis’ 1977 EP on blue vinyl playing at 33 1/3 rpm on Side A and 45 rpm on Side B. Features the rare “Match Of The Day,” recorded during the Wind and Wuthering sessions.

Grateful Dead – Dark Star: Europe ’72 Olympia Theatre – Paris, France 5/4/72 LP

The longest and previously unavailable version of “Dark Star” from Olympia Theatre in Paris, France on May 4, 1972 presented on vinyl for the first time. Featuring some of Phil Lesh’s finest playing ever.

JEFF the Brotherhood – Upstairs at United, Vol. 3 LP

A series of all-analog recordings recorded inside the historic United Record pressing plant in Nashville, TN. Each song in this session was recorded in a single take direct to ¼ inch tape then cut at 45 RPM. On the recordings, the duo are joined by William Tyler on guitar, Loney Hutchins on keys, and Joey Plunket on bass. The recording features an 11 minute version of ’’I’m A Freak’’, an 11 minute cover of Hawkwind’s ‘’Master Of The Universe’’ and an 8 minute improvisational jam, aptly titled ’’In Space No One Can Hear You Scream."

Phish – Deluxe LP Edition Box Set

Phish’s debut studio release issued on vinyl for the first time with new original artwork by Jim Pollock.

The Black Angels – Lonely / Watch Out Boy 7"

Two new tracks produced by the legendary Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, Dum Dum Girls, Raveonettes) on 7" orange vinyl.

The Byrds – It’s No Use / Feel A Whole Lot Better 7"

A 7" with an alternate take of “I’ll Feel A Whole Lot Better” on Side A and outtake “It’s No Use” on the other side.

Jonathan Wilson – Pity Trials and Tomorrow’s Child LP

One of the most exciting releases for this year’s Record Store Day comes from Laurel Canyon musician/producer Jonathan Wilson. Side A features George Harrison’s “Isn’t It A Pity” with guest vocals from Graham Nash. Side B includes a take on Happy Traum’s “The Trials Of Jonathan”, as well as a cover of “Tomorrow’s Child” from Japanese psych rock outfit Apryl Fool.

Lou Reed – Rock N Roll Animal LP

A reissue of Lou Reed’s 1974 live album featuring the famous 13 minute “Heroin” and the 10 minute jammed out “Rock and Roll.”
