Prince Estate Previews Unreleased Recordings Collection ‘Timeless’ with “Stone”
Restlessly prolific as he was, Prince’s career was also steered by an awareness of his legacy and the deliberate assembly of a body of work that would continue to reveal itself long after he’d gone. The late icon’s estate has been attentive to this as it sorts through his legendary vault, continuing his story by sharing a fistful of sprawling deluxe reissues and shelved records that Prince saved for the future. Today, the estate announced plans to resume that effort with Timeless, a new posthumous collection of unheard songs from throughout his whole career.
Timeless uncovers Prince’s lifelong project of looking forward by compiling 10 tracks he set aside at key moments in his discography, ranging from the year before his debut to the year he passed away. Set to arrive on Aug. 28 via Sony Legacy Recordings, the estate alluded to its first archival offering since 2023’s Diamonds and Pearls (Super Deluxe Edition) in April with the advance single “With This Tear,” an intimate piano ballad he recorded at Paisley Park in 1991 as a demo for Celine Deon, released on the 10th anniversary of his death. The album’s formal announcement comes with “Stone,” a 1995 recording penned by Sandra St. Victor, Tom Hammer, and Jules Van Even.
In the decade since Prince’s tragic passing, his estate has honored his legacy with several archival releases, including massive deluxe reissues of Sign O’ The Times and 1999, the unreleased studio album Welcome 2 America, live tapes like Prince and The Revolution: Live (from 1985) and demo collections like Piano and a Microphone 1983 and Originals, the latter compiling songs that he’d originally written for other artists.
The unveiling of Timeless aligns with Celebration 2026, the 10th-anniversary presentation of Paisley Park’s annual tribute to Prince’s life and music. Some of the many friends and collaborators set to perform at the special staging this week include Chaka Khan, Morris Day, Miguel, Bilal, Tevin Campbell, Sounds of Blackness and an unprecedented collaboration between members of the New Power Generation and the Revolution, plus panelists like Bootsy Collins and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.
