Back in 1976 Robert Hunter recorded a studio album, which was set for release, then ultimately tabled. Hunter was joined on these sessions by the band Comfort. He would play a number of live gigs with the group, including some February and March 1978 gigs in which Hunter and Comfort opened for the Jerry Garcia Band.
Comfort was comprised of Kevin Morgenstern (guitar), Rodney Albin (violin, mandolin), Larry Klein (bass) and Pat Lorenzano (drums). Marlene Molle and Kathleen Klein shared vocal duties. Richard McNees played keyboards before being replaced by Ozzie Ahlers.
While Hunter’s record, known as Alligator Moon remained unreleased, three of the songs later appeared on the 1982 compilation album Promontory Rider (issued by the old Relix Records).
Alligator Moon will finally find its way to the public in late November. Rhino will produce 2500 copies on vinyl as a Record Store Day exclusive on 11/27/26 with new artwork by Maureen Hunter.
