Phish Win Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Fan Vote

Phish fans turned out for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s fan vote, securing the top spot by a wide margin. Since the music institution announced the nominees for its class of 2025, featuring 14 storied candidates, Phish have earned a whopping 330,000 votes. That total is more than the bottom four acts–the White Stripes, OutKast, Oasis and Maná–combined, and just shy of 50,000 more than the second biggest turnout of Bad Company, who raked in 281,000 nods.
This overwhelming vote of fan confidence by no means secures Phish’s formal recognition among rock’s greatest. Alongside the rest of the top seven–Bad Company, Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper, Joe Cocker, Soundgarden and Chubby Checker–the Vermont quartet will be figured in the fan ballot, which tallies one vote for each against roughly 1,200 in the official voting body of music professionals.
While that’s not exactly a sure thing, it bodes well for the jam forerunners. Since the ballot’s introduction in 2013, 11 of the 12 fan favorites have secured a seat in the Hall of Fame. Notoriously, the only exception to the rule was Dave Matthews Band, who raked in more than 1 million votes in 2020 only to go without even a nomination for three years–though in 2024, they finally got their due.
With its limited quantitative sway in the voting process (though arguably more symbolic heft), the fan vote is something of an honor of its own, and another prize for Phish’s packed mantle.
