Phish closed out their two-night run at Richmond, VA’s Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront last night, their first appearances in the Virginia capitol since 1994.

The group kicked off its first set with an over 16-minute “Gumbo,” and then offered a series of single-song selections, including the always welcome “The Curtain With,” the newer tune “Hey Stranger,” a classic “Llama” and The Story of the Ghost favorite “Roggae.” The Vermont Quartet then moved into the evening’s first segue, a relatively tight “Tube” that found Trey Anastasio moving over to his mini-drum kit for a bit, before the number slid into the Josh White and Sam Gary spiritual, “Timber (Jerry the Mule).” An almost 10-minute turn on Page McConnell’s Vida Blue number “Most Events Aren’t Planned” brought the set to a close.

For their second set, though, Phish offered a completely segued segment, moving through around 90-minutes of music without pausing. They opened the set with an over 16-minute “Kill Devil Falls,” and then settled into a 23-minute “Ruby Waves” and an over 26-minute cover of TV on the Radio’s “Golden Age,” with Anastasio once again employing his drum kit. An upbeat segue from “Meatstick” into “Backwards Down the Number Line” and The Rolling Stones’ “Loving Cup” rounded out the frame.

For their encore, Phish returned for the beloved Gamehendge tune “The Lizards” and the rocking Hoist tune “Julius.” Phish will perform at Jacksonville, FL’s VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena tomorrow. It will be their first show in Florida in a decade.
