Phil Lesh Opens Second Leg of Nine-Show Cap Run with Amy Helm, Joe Russo and More

After reuniting The Q last week, Phil Lesh went back to The Capitol Theatre on Oct. 18 for three more nights of musical celebration, this time enlisting Friends like Stuart Bogie, Amy Helm, Eric D. Johnson, Josh Kaufman, Grahame Lesh, Elliott Peck, Joe Russo and Benmont Tench.

Oct. 18’s show – their first of three – gave the collective ample opportunity to meld as they offered Grateful Dead favorites like an opening “Althea” as well as some choice covers like Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City.”

The band’s second frame also kicked off with a nice “China”> “Rider,” which also made its way through “The Wheel.”

The band encored with The Band’s “Ophelia” – no doubt a nod to Amy Helm’s familial roots – and closed with “Ripple.”

Lesh will lead this same lineup through Oct. 19 and 20.

The final Phil-O-Ween weekend will stretch from Oct. 29-31 and include Nicki Bluhm, Larry Campbell, Griffin Goldsmith, Taylor Goldsmith, Grahame Lesh, Trevor Menear, Lee Pardini, M.C. Taylor and Teresa Williams.

If you can’t make it to the show in person, FANS.live is serving up livestreams for the entre run.
