Jack Johnson, Pearl Jam, Bonnie Raitt and Jon Cleary, moe., Umphrey’s McGee and Abigail Washburn are among the artists who have offered tracks to the Patagonia Music Collective. This new site affiliated with the environmentally-conscious apparel company, launched today at www.patagonia.com/music. Tracks will be sold for $.99 each, with net proceeds going directly to the environmental organizations selected by the artists.

“Any endeavor that combines great music with fund raising for quality environmental organizations gets my attention,” said Bonnie Raitt. “When Patagonia approached us to be involved we were excited to team up. I’ve been a supporter of Earth Justice for almost a decade, because, as their slogan states, ‘the Earth needs a good lawyer.’ The live version of ‘So Damn Good’ was chosen, as it’s an unreleased track that would generate interest among fans, with the intention of introducing them to Earth Justice and the organization’s excellent work. The song’s writer, Jon Cleary, a member of my touring and
recording band for many years, joined me onstage at the 2009 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and just knocked this one out of the park with his killer duet vocal and keys work.”

Abigail Washburn adds, “Thanks to Patagonia for amassing this community of musicians to unite voices for the progress of humanity and preservation of the planet. It’s an honor to part of a community of artists who believe in the possibility of positive transformation. The Chinese folk song, ‘Sala,’ is sung around the fire by the Qiang minority group in Western China to celebrate life. I learned this song while producing an album for children survivors of the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake called Afterquake. The proceeds from my version, ‘Sala USA,’ will go towards the China branch of the Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots & Shoots program, which is doing great work in the region the Qiang minority calls home.”
