Willie Nelson has been cleared to return to touring. The revered outlaw country musician’s team released a statement on social media, notifying fans and ticket holders for his traveling Outlaw Music Festival series that his health has improved and will return to touring obligations in the coming days.

News of Nelson’s impending return arrives after doctors ordered the 91-year-old icon to take a break from his schedule and on-stage appearances beginning on June 21. Another message was posted on the Texas-bred artist’s social platforms on June 26: “Willie Nelson will not be performing at tonight’s show in Virginia Beach. We expect Willie to return to the tour shortly.”

True to their promise, Nelson’s camp followed up on Friday, June 28, hours before the musician was set to appear in Syracuse, N.Y., alerting fans that he would not be in attendance at the night’s central New York location; instead, they wrote, “Willie Nelson has been cleared by his doctors to go back on the road again. He will resume performing on the Outlaw Tour next week. Willie will not be on this weekend’s dates.”

In the same vein as previous Outlaw Music Festival stops (sans Nelson), Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, and Celisse held down entertainment duties, with Lukas Nelson and Family reprising classics, picking up his father’s role. As mentioned in the previous posts concerning Nelson’s advent, special guests such as Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, and Sierra Ferrell have emerged due to the shifted format.

Later this week, Nelson is expected to rejoin the tour, appearing at stops in Mansfield, Mass., on Tuesday, July 2, before celebrating Independence Day at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, N.J., billed as Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic with Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Alison Kraus, Maren Morris, Mavis Staples and more. Tickets remain on sale.
