Santa Monica, CA’s Ocean Way Festival has been canceled due to severe beach erosion caused by Hurricane Marie. The two-day event was slated to take place on the sandy beach next to the Santa Monica Pier on September 26 and 27, featuring Jack White, The Killers, Olivia Dean, Khruangbin, Sublime, Durand Jones & the Indications, Sublime and Alvvays, among others.
In an official statement, the festival’s promtoers explained, “Due to the impacts of Hurricane Marie, the City of Santa Monica has canceled the inaugural Ocean Way Festival. Storm surf and runoff has caused significant beach erosion and the festival can no longer be safely held as planned. We were so excited to spend a weekend together on The Beach but can share that plans are already underway to bring the festival to Santa Monica in 2027! Refunds are being processed automatically, and no further action is required on your part. Please allow a few business days for the refund to appear in your account. Thank you for your support. See you soon.”
“With Hurricane Marie also causing sinkholes in Malibu and triggering home evacuations in Long Beach due to rising surf, the rapid erosion of the beach near the Sandbox event space over the past few days is deeply concerning,” Dan Hall, a Santa Monica City Council member, told The Los Angeles Times.
Approximately 50,000 fans were expected to attend the event each day.
