Oakland A’s to Pay Tribute to Jerry Garcia

On Friday, July 5, the Oakland A’s will take on the Baltimore Orioles. The Bay Area match will double as a special evening that pays tribute to the late local musician and regional prodigy Jerry Garcia, with special offers tailor-made for fans of the guitarist and America’s favorite pastime, converging at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, Calif., just across the bridge from San Francisco.

In addition to nine innings of certified sports entertainment, the impending event will be highlighted by Garcia-centric offerings, including a custom ball cap complete with the musician’s signature wolf iconography and the regional team’s logo. Besides take-home items, the event will honor the lauded member of the Grateful Dead with a pre-game concert from Stu Allen & Mars Hotel.

Sunshine Becker, known for contributing to Bobby Weir and Phil Lesh’s Further project, will deliver the National Anthem. Furthermore, a portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold via the special event link will benefit the Rex Foundation–a nonprofit organization created by the Grateful Dead family and friends in 1983.

Notably, 2024 represents the Oakland A’s final year playing in their current Bay Area location. The sports team will move to California’s capitol, Sacramento, from 2025 through 2027 (with potential for 2028 inclusion) while a new home base is constructed in Las Vegas.

Tickets are available now.
