Nirvana to Recieve 2023 Lifetime Achievement Grammy at Special Merit Award Ceremony

Among some of the world’s most legendary music acts, Nirvana has been selected by The Recording Academy to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the Grammys this year.
Between 1992 and 1996, the alternative rock sensation was nominated for seven Grammys. While some were shared by the band as a whole, others were received after the death of band leader Kurt Cobain who passed in 1994 – including their award for Best Alternative Music Performance for their iconic MTV Unplugged set.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is decided by a vote held by the Recording Academy’s National Trustees “who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording,” as mentioned on the official Grammy Awards website. Recipients sharing the honor this year include Bobby McFerrin, Nile Rodgers, and The Supremes, along with Slick Rick, Ma Rainey and Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart.
“Each creator on this list has made an impact on our industry – from technical to creative achievements – representing the breadth of music’s diverse community, “ said Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. “We’re excited to celebrate this group of legends next month that continues to inspire and shape the music world.”
The presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award will be held at the Recording Academy’s Special Merit Award Ceremony at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on Feb. 4, a day prior to the main Grammy Awards event, which will be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Watch the 2023 Grammys hosted by Trevor Noah live on CBS Sunday, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m. local time.
