New York’s SummerStage Sets 2019 Calendar: The B-52s, George Clinton, Khruangbin and more
From June to October, New York City’s SummerStage will take over Central Park and a number of other public spaces with concerts by The B-52s, George Clinton, Khruangbin, Kurt Vile, Japanese Breakfast, The Wailers and many more.
According to a press release, “This year’s festival will showcase 200 renowned artists and rising stars from around the world to local neighborhood parks, presenting distinctly New York genres — salsa, jazz, and hip-hop — alongside indie, reggae, Afrobeat, soul, contemporary dance, and much more.”
Free shows include The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival (Aug. 23-25), Big Freedia (June 13), Japanese Breakfast (June 24), Alvvays (June 26), the Mountain Goats (Aug. 10) and The Wailers (Aug. 18), among others.
SummerStage will also present a batch of benefit shows in Central Park to maintain its complementary programs. Benefit shows include George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic’s farewell tour (June 4), Khruangbin (June 20), Kurt Vile & The Violators (July 25), King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard (Aug. 28), Tash Sultana (Sept. 4), The B-52s (Sept. 24) and more.
