John Mayer has debuted a new single “Tom and Jerry” on his SiriusXM channel Life with John Mayer. The track will be available globally tomorrow.
“Tom and Jerry” is the first vocal number Mayer has released under his own name since his 2021 album, Sob Rock. He also recently appeared on “Moon So High,” from Remi Wolf’s new album MUD and contributed to the 10th anniversary edition of Bob Weir’s Blue Mountain.
Mayer says that “Tom and Jerry” was the name he used when saving his first voice memo containing the song idea. Of the creative process, in a statement he simply shared a lyric, “And if you ever come through/ Which I doubt you’ll do/ I’ll run away with you.”
Produced and written by Blake Slatkin and Mayer, the number boasts contributions from bassist Pino Palladino, drummer Aaron Sterling, percussionist Lenny Castro and organist Larry Goldings. “Tom and Jerry” was recorded at Chaplin Recording Studios in Hollywood, CA.
As previously reported, Mayer will kick off a residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere on April.
