Today, Farm Aid shared that a new member has joined its prestigious Board of Directors. A stalwart of Americana music, Nathaniel Rateliff has become the third artist to take on the title, after founding members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp, and latter-day position holders Dave Matthews and Margo Price.

Commenting on the massive achievement, Rateliff said in a statement, “Farm Aid has made a huge impact on me. It is always one of my favorite events of the year. It is an honor and a privilege to join my heroes and peers as a Farm Aid board member. I look forward to working together to continue educating the public on the struggles family farmers face and to raise money to support them for a better future.”

For four decades, the Farm Aid Artist Board has provided the organization with guidance on its year-round efforts to develop an agricultural system that values the family farmer, quality food, healthy soil, and water. It supports the robust, prosperous rural communities that feed much of the nation. Rateliff, along with the fellow Board artists, will remain committed to Farm Aid’s mission and the annual music festival, which raises critical funds to sustain the program.

Rateliff’s Farm Aid story began in 2013 and endured with repeated returns to the stage after 2016. Ratelif has gone beyond the title of artist and embraced the role of an advocate for the organization. Offstage, he has frequently appeared on the FarmYard Stage as a featured speaker, using his voice for good through interviews, podcasts, and other live engagements.

The nonprofit previously expanded its Board of Directors with Matthews’ arrival in 2001, and two decades later, in 2021, Price joined the team. Since its launch, Farm Aid has garnered $80 million, according to the official website, “to promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture. Farm Aid is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build a vibrant, family farm-centered system of agriculture in America.”
