On Tuesday, August 5, moe. set off the latest leg of their 2025 Summer Tour with a performance at Lexington, Ky.’s The Burl. Beyond the continuation of their 35th anniversary celebration, last night’s show marked the celebrated jam ensemble’s first date in a six-night run with support from Eggy, who made their debut performance as a trio during bassist Mike Goodman’s mental health hiatus. Together, the bands distinguished the occasion–and nodded to the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary celebration over the weekend–with a collaborative cover of “Deal.”
Before the headline act, Eggy took the stage in their novel configuration of guitarist Jake Brownstein, drummer Alex Bailey and keyboardist Dani Battat. The stripped-back combo deftly filled out the empty space in their low end with some adventurous interplay on originals “Atomic Age,” “Come Up Slow,” “Waiting Game” and “Beaming,” plus a cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash’s “Southern Cross,” which has been a live favorite for the band since 2017.
moe. commenced their first of their two sets with the tried and true pairing of ‘90s essentials “Seat of My Pants” and “Sensory Deprivation Bank,” then merged into the No Doy standout “32 Things.” The sextet turned to their triumphant 13th studio album Circle of Giants with “In Stride” and the moving “Beautiful Mess,” then concluded the frame with the classic “Rebubula.” moe.’s second set was a tight three-track affair, beginning with “It” and building to atmospheric improvisational peaks thorugh the segued pair of “Time Ed” and “Recreational Chemistry.” As a grand finale, the band returned for their encore in the company of Eggy for their first treatment of “Deal” since February and Eggy’s first ever.
Moe. and Eggy will join forces for another tour stop tomorrow, August 7 in Peoria, Ill. Find tickets and more information at moe.org/tour.
