Sam Grisman Project and Peter Rowan will return to Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium for an evening of music “celebrating the grass roots of the Grateful Dead.” The all-star concert will take place on Saturday, January 27.
Confirmed special guests, who hug the bluegrass and Grateful Dead worlds, include: Margo Price, Tim O’Brien, Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams, Stuart Duncan and Bryan Sutton. Dominick Leslie, Logan Ledge, Max Flansburg, Nat Smith, Tod Patrick Livingston and Victor Furtado will also appear and additional performers are expected.
Rowan worked closely with Sam’s father David Grisman over the years, including in the seminal, short-lived 1970s act Old & In the Way, which also featured Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clements and John Kahn. Rowan has been celebrating his connection to Garcia on the road with Sam Grisman Project in recent years, including at The Ryman this past January. That gig, dubbed Decades in Song: Celebrating the Eras of Peter Rowan, featured appearances by Sutton, Leslie, Ducan, Jerry Douglas, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings, Sam Bush, John Mailander and Kyle Tuttle, among others.
Next, Sam Grisman Project will appear at Stoughton, WI’s Stoughton Opera House on November 11 while Rowan will take the stage at New Harmony, IN’s Thrall’s Opera House on November 6.
