Man Smart, Woman Smarter: American Beauties Outline Tribute to Bobby Weir and Donna Jean, Fourth Annual Women’s Day Celebration

For the fourth year in a row, American Beauties is shining the light on International Women’s Month. The ensemble, known for its renditions of Grateful Dead classics and associated covers, will perform at the Ashkenaz Music and Dance Community Center in Berkeley, Calif., on Friday, March 13, 2026. The performance has been billed as a night to honor the legacy of Bobby Weir and Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay.

The impending night of music will reflect the group’s affinity for the Dead’s leading ladies; their prolific chapter with Godchaux from 1972-79, as well as the beloved female protagonists on songs like “Bertha,” “Althea,” “Peggy-O,” “Sugaree,” and so on. The Grateful Dead have shown support for the girls on tracks like “Man Smart, Woman Smarter,” delineating their commitment to equity, a mission carried over and emphasized by Dead & Company with particular care in 2022, devising merch in support of women’s reproductive rights.

The fourth annual event will recognize the passing of Donna Jean [Nov. 2, 2025] and the late Bobby Weir [Jan. 10, 2026], serving as a musical tribute to the Dead’s only daughter and the group’s beloved rhythm guitarist.

The aforementioned performance is an all-ages concert. To purchase tickets in advance of the show, follow this link
