Back in the fall of 2000, the Derek Trucks Band welcomed singer Javier Colon to the group. He remained with the band through the spring of 2002, when he left to begin a solo career. Colon then foundered a bit but recently stepped back into the spotlight when he became a contestant on the NBC singing competition, The Voice. Last night Colon, who perfomed “Landslide” with Stevie Nicks on the program, took top honors, just besting second-place finisher Dia Frampton.
Last year Colon rejoined Trucks for an appearance with the Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi Band at the Wanee Festival, and a clip can be found here. In addition, Relix.com has posted Colon’s performance with the DTB on the Jam Nation radio program from November 10, 2001.
