Listen: The New Deal and Joe Russo Drop New LP ‘Sultan (Live)’

The New Deal and Joe Russo have dropped a new live album on streaming sites. Titled Sultan (Live), the set teeters over the 35-minute marker and includes seven extemporized movements picked from the ensemble’s live performances on November 21 and 22, 2024, at the Sultan Room in Brooklyn, N.Y.
In a collaborative post on Instagram between Jamie Shields, Dan Kurtz, and Russo, the trio of musicians announced the arrival of the new live album. “The New Deal considers each concert its own musical experience. Every now and then, a show comes along that strikes a special chord with us—and we knew the November 2024 NYC shows with Joe Russo would be one of those moments. We’re proud to share this special experience with our latest live release…”
News of the set’s arrival came after The New Deal and Russo’s late April announcement of impending live appearances, scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Ardmore Music Hall in Ardmore, Pa., and Saturday, July 12, at Xanadu in Brooklyn, N.Y.
In their concert announcement on socials, the trio referred to themselves as “The RüDeal,” a title Russo evoked when sharing an overhead shot video of his rig and demonstrating his impeccable aptitude for rhythm. Watch below.
