Listen: Railroad Earth Share New Single “Everything Keeps Changin’,” Featuring Greensky Bluegrass’ Paul Hoffman
Railroad Earth has shared the second single off their impending full-length release, which is intended to harken to the group’s silver jubilee. Today’s arrival represents a collaboration between the longstanding Garden State jamgrass ensemble and guest player and fellow purveyor of the craft, Greensky Bluegrass’ Paul Hoffman. The new title, “Everything Keeps Changin’,” is now available on streaming services.
“Everything Keeps Changin’” threads a deliberate needle between the innate figureheads of the bluegrass movement and, by circumventing each player’s individual talent, brings collective might and a renewed focus on the kinship that ignited a quarter-century brotherhood baked into Railroad Earth’s songs and road-fledged experience.
The track opens with a sung statement: “My friends have scattered all across the land/ I’m still playing in the band,” referencing their timeline and the effect that years have on folks’ inclination to migrate and change locations–natural patterns of the living. The song continues, reinforcing the notion: “Everyone’s a ghost, and everything keeps changing all the time,” further explaining the relentless drag from one event to the next and the realities of touring.
As the song develops, a solidifying wail of “What a life we live” underscores a sense of gratitude for the times and tales that emerged from their shared experiences, parsed between players and displaying Todd Sheaffer and Hoffman’s pass of lines. “Everything Keeps Changin’” represents the second single off Railroad Earth’s forthcoming album and comes after the initial Daniel Donato featured single, “Keep Your Eyes Open.”
