Leslie Mendelson has announced her fourth full-length album After The Party, due to arrive on June 21 through Pasadena Records and Royal Potato Family. The album, recorded at Grove Masters, Jackson Browne’s storied Santa Monica, Calif., pays homage to seventies Americana with 2024 nuance. To celebrate the announcement, Mendelson has put out a new single and music video from the project, called “Other Girls.”
“Other Girls” opens with a melancholy post-punk guitar melody before charging into an erotically themed folk-rock piece. The accompanying video, directed by Mendelson’s cousin Karah Preiss and filmed and edited by Joe Bressler, plays with perspective and nostalgia as it shows Mendelson seated in a theater watching a different version of herself performing the song onstage, boldly bringing the song’s anthemic chorus and coursing guitar to life.
Mendelson brought together a stellar production team for After The Party, working with legendary producer Peter Asher, who has collaborated with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Linda Rondstadt and James Taylor; Tyler Chester, who has worked with Sara Bareilles and indie newcomer Madison Cunningham, also served as a producer. Mendelson co-wrote the album’s ten tracks with songwriting partner Steve McEwan, who has written with her since her Grammy-nominated debut album, Swan Feathers.
Mendelson is currently touring and will take the stage next on Thursday, March 14 at the Southgate House Revival in Newport, Ky. The tour will continue through the end of June, with appearances at the Michael McDonald & Patti Labelle Cruise in Miami from April 10-13, Dallas’ The Kessler on May 16 and the Soreng Theater in Eugene, Ore. on June 2. After a few months away, Mendelson will return to the road for three dates in the fall, ending with a show at Findlay, Ohio’s Ames Hall on Oct. 17.
After The Party is available for pre-order now. Watch the music video for “Other Girls” below, and read on for a full list of Mendelson’s 2024 tour dates.
