Grace Potter has announced the forthcoming release of her seventh studio album. The four-time Grammy-nominated artist, known for her powerful pulse of musical vitality, has outlined the concept for Trespasser, her new 10-track record due on August 21 via Thirty Tigers. Through each movement, the record presents a chaotic array of personalities who penetrate forbidden places in pursuit of a relinquished solitude. “Love Me Not,” the album’s lead single, previews the imminent arrival. Trespasser serves as the spiritual sequel to 2023’s Mother Road, building off the highway-ridden storyline that connects her current Topango Canyon residence and her part-time return to Vermont. As noted by the artist, over the past five years, she has made the homebound trip eight times, each time as an independent traveler. The difference exists in artistic growth. Where Mother Road yearned for comfort, Trespasser demonstrates Potter’s unflappability as a purveyor of pavement and mystic of music. 

“We’ve always been taught that the trespassers are the bad guys, but to me it’s not about reckless rebellion—it’s about exploring, physically and mentally and emotionally, and being willing to step outside the narratives we’ve accepted,” Potter shares. “Because in my experience, the places we’re told not to go are exactly the ones that show us who we really are.”

Offering an open window into the artist’s interior construction and road-fledged journeys, Potter reflects, “these fables and storylines that have been whooshing around my soul for a very long time.” Produced by her husband and frequent collaborator Eric Valentine and recorded on the road, “the album echoes its origins with a wayward sound that spans from stripped-bare soul to cosmic country to hellraising rock & roll—all while orbiting Potter’s force-of-nature voice and lavishly imagined storytelling.”
