Listen: Bob Dylan Welcomes New Drummer During 2025 Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour Opener in Tulsa

On Tuesday, March 25, Bob Dylan commenced the latest leg of his ongoing Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour at the 2,800-capacity Tulsa Theatre in Tulsa, Okla., the first in a series of Midwest stops that will stretch much of the spring.

Given the band’s sense of renewal, steaming for a four-month performance break, they also drastically modified the lineup, swapping longtime drummer Jim Keltner for Anton Fig.

The 72-year-old replacement is known for his work with Joe Bonamassa and Kiss and as a long-serving member of David Letterman’s house band from 1986 through 2015. Before last night’s arrival, Fig had worked with Dylan, participating in the 1992 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration.

Prior to the aforementioned ‘90s inclusion, Fig added to Empire Burlesque‘s cut “Clean Cut Kid” and the 1986 follow-up, “Drifting Too Far From Home.” Fig has also worked with Mick Jagger, Rosanne Cash, Joe Cocker, Warren Zevon, Oz Noy, Paul Butterfield, and others, flexing his chops as a session musician and instrumental ace.

Besides a switch behind the kit, Dylan’s band featured expected help from Bob Britt (guitar), Tony Garnier (guitar, piano, harp), and Doug Lancio (guitar). Notably, Keltner’s work with Dylan extends back to the early ‘70s, taking part in the 1973 studio session for “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” and other defining music moments.

Last night’s setlist remained unchanged from last fall’s offerings, leaning heavily into cuts off the tour’s namesake record and Greatest Hits like “Watching the River Flow” and “When I Paint My Masterpiece.” “Desolation Row” was also included. The track returned dramatically last summer when the bard got mechanical in Buffalo with percussive taps via a wrench. Read more
