As a nod toward their landmark 35th anniversary, jamgrass favorites Leftover Salmon have announced the upcoming release of their new studio LP, Let’s Party About It, due on May 9 via Compass Records. Paired with the news of the forthcoming set is the band’s initial preview, “Big Wheel,” which, according to Vince Herman, conveys, “The world keeps turning. Find a spot to watch it fly by and ride the wheel.” Listen below.

Decades in, Leftover Salmon models its status as bluegrass innovators, sonically exhibiting their apt understanding of each other’s musical identities by taking stock of the connective tissue that allows the inner workings of their creative process to coalesce. Let’s Party About It represents the first time the band composed an album together in a single session. Joined by longtime friend and songwriter Aaron Raitiere, the group forged their feelings and sense of brotherhood into an 11-track collection.

Recorded at Compass Sound Studio (formerly Glaser Sound Studio), the birth palace of outlaw country, the band sought assistance from friends, collaborators, and greats like Del McCoury (vocals), Sam Bush (fiddle, mandolin), Jason Carter (fiddle), Jeff Coffin (saxophone), and more. Today’s initial preview centers around the core six, particularly the bright ring of Andy Thorn’s banjo, which welcomes listeners on “Big Wheel.” The track holds space for Herman’s vocal lead as he contemplates time.

Leftover Salmon will continue celebrating its milestone anniversary on May 26 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo. They will share a concert bill with Kitchen Dwellers; each band will perform two sets. The occasion will include featured help from High Country Horns and special guests, Clay Street Unit.
