Larkin Poe have shared “Mockingbird,” the latest single in anticipation of the roots duo’s forthcoming seventh album, Bloom, set to arrive on Jan. 24 via their own Tricki-Woo Records. To accompany the new track, the Nashville, Tenn.-based sister act of Rebecca and Megan Lovell have also released an official music video and outlined an expansive 2025 tour.
“Mockingbird” follows preview tracks “Bluephoria” and “If God Is a Woman,” which were released in the summer, as well as 2023’s Blood Harmony, which won the duo a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Where “Bluephoria,” in Rebecca’s view, chronicles “a rock ’n’ roll rumination on the duality of the human experience,” “Mockingbird” is instead “a tender reflection on the perpetual journey of becoming.”
“Choosing to find the hidden meaning in the many pitstops and messy detours that life sometimes demands has felt like a very important perspective shift,” Rebecca elaborates.
Bloom honors this shift in perspective with a new sense of sisterly synergy. A culmination of the duo’s time in the Americana scene, Bloom was produced and co-written by Rebecca, Megan, and Tyler Bryant. On the project’s true-to-life process, Megan explained that Bloom is about “finding yourself, knowing yourself, and separating the truth of who you are from societal expectations.” Rebecca adds that it calls for an embrace of “the flaws and idiosyncrasies that make us real.”
Following the release of Bloom, Larkin Poe will kick off an extensive North American tour from St Louis’ The Hawthorn on April 8, which also includes stops at The Fillmore in San Francisco, Washington’s 9:30 Club, New York’s Irving Plaza, and the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. in April and May. In September, the band is set to head across the pond for shows in England and Scotland, followed by a number of European cities through November. Blues-folk musician Parker Millsap and singer-songwriter Amythyst Kiah will join Larkin Poe on select dates.
