Rooster Walk 16 is currently underway in Martinsville, VA. The event features six stages of music on Pop’s Farm. Back in December Rooster Walk was named Best Music Festival in the Best of the Blue Ridge awards, via Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine.
On Friday night, a few of this year’s notables artists collaborated at Rooster Walk. Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country performed on the URW Lawn Stage just after a set from Keller Williams. The group opened with Donato original “Justice,” which segued into a cover of the Allman Brothers Band’s “Jessica.” During the group’s single extended set, other paired songs included “Luck Of The Draw” and “Sugar Leg Rag,” “Broadside Ballad” and “Hangman’s Reel,” as well as “Ten Feet of Rope” and “Dance in the Desert.”
After “Dance in the Desert,” Keller Williams stepped onstage for the final two songs of the set. Williams appeared on guitar and lead vocals for two linked tunes that were Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country debuts. Williams led the quartet through a version of Tom Petty’s “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” followed by his own “Kidney in a Cooler.”
Donato then made his way over to the VA is For Lovers Lake Stage where he joined Kitchen Dwellers for a cover of Neil Young’s “Walk On.”
Rooster Walk 16 concludes today.
