Remi Wolf has enlisted John Mayer for the new track, “Moon So High,” a duet featured on her third studio album, MUD, which was recently issued via Island Records. The tune is Mayer’s first vocal performance on a studio release since he dropped his most recent LP, Sob Rock, in 2021.
According to the track’s announcement, “The duet sits within a broader creative shift for Wolf, whose new album embraces a warmer, more spacious sound while retaining the adventurous spirit that has defined her work. Mayer’s presence adds a distinctive dimension to the record, placing the collaboration at the intersection of contemporary alternative pop and enduring singer-songwriter craft. The pairing came together through Wolf’s longstanding admiration for Mayer. Having envisioned Moon So High as a duet, Wolf reached out to him directly. Mayer responded, and the two were reportedly in the studio together approximately one week later. Emphasizing live instrumentation and musicians performing together in the same room, the recording process prioritized instinct, spontaneity, and the natural evolution of each song.”
Wolf, her longtime collaborator Jared Solomon and their core musical crew tracked the meat of the new album in Nashville, Big Bear, Calif., New York and Joshua Tree, Calif.
As previously reported, Mayer will begin a run of shows at Las Vegas’ Sphere in April. He recently extended the residency deeper in June.
