Jerry Harrison Stretches ‘Stop Making Sense’ Screening Tour Into 2026

Keyboardist and guitar player for the forever fan-adored Talking Heads, Jerry Harrison, has extended a run of live events in association with the 40th anniversary rerelease of the Stop Making Sense concert film, presented by A24 and newly restored in 4K. Each screening will include a live appearance from Harrison, who will present an opening dialogue and host an audience Q&A following the main event.

The announcement presents more than a dozen occasions for fans from coast to coast to experience the one-of-a-kind movie that builds off the band’s original 1984 film. Harrison’s tour schedule in support of the screening will occur in four legs, beginning September 11 at the Capitol Center in Concord, N.H. The initial nine dates primarily focus on Northeastern locations with a pair of Virginia outliers, and a night in neighboring D.C.

The second part of the tour, which occurs in October, will take Harrison through California before arriving in Arizona and New Mexico. An evening at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan, Ill., kicks off a return to the Midwest, before dropping into Texas and Florida. Ultimately, the final tour leg picks up after the new year and will see Harrison back in California, before following the coast up to Oregon and Washington.

The inspiration for Stop Making Sense arrived when director Jonathan Demme saw Talking Heads during their 1983 tour for Speaking in Tongues. Afterward, he approached the ensemble with the idea of making the show into a concert film. They agreed and worked together over the next several months to finalize the presentation. Ultimately, Demme filmed three concerts at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December 1983 to create the video.

Stop Making Sense focuses mainly on music by Talking Heads but does include a few songs recorded with member adjacent acts, like Tom Tom Club’s “Genius Of Love,” “What A Day That Was,” and “Big Business” from Byrne’s 1981 album, The Catherine Wheel. In addition, the film captures classic performances of staple tunes like “Burning Down The House,” “Girlfriend Is Better,” and other sage classics.

General on-sale begins this Friday, August 2, at 10 am local time. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.jerry-harrison.com
