On November 5, a special show will honor the memory of Barry Poss. One Night on Sugar Hill: A Celebration of the Life of Barry Poss & the Legacy of Sugar Hill Records will take place at the Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC.

Poss, who passed away last year, co-founded Sugar Hill in 1978 with Dave Freeman and became the principal two years later. Poss advanced the cause of numerous folk and bluegrass artists over the years, including: Dolly Parton, Nickel Creek, Marty Stuart, The Osborne Brothers, The Country Gentlemen, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, The Seldom Scene, The Del McCoury Band, New Grass Revival and Hot Rize. Last week Poss was inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame by longtime friend and Sugar Hill artist Jerry Douglas.

The very first album on the label was by Boone Creek’s One Track Way. That group included Douglas, Ricky Skaggs and Wes Golding, who will return to the stage together on November 5 to honor Poss. Other artists scheduled to appear, include Sam Bush, Hot Rize, Sarah Jarosz, Peter Rowan, Stuart Duncan, Wayne Henderson, Quicksilver (a reunion with Doyle Lawson and Jimmy Haley), Bryan Sutton, Robert Earl Keen and many others.

Tickets for the show are available here.
