Founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and the last remaining member of the original lineup, Jaimoe has announced a one-off performance with Friends of the Brothers on Saturday, April 27, at SHU Community Theatre in Fairfield, Conn. The concert announcement comes after the passing of fellow bandmate and master guitarist Dickey Betts last Thursday, April 18, 2024.
Friends of the Brothers features artists with deep Allman ties, including Junior Mack, a known Jaimoe collaborator, having fronted the backbeat’s Jasssz Band for 15 years. Also on the roster is a former touring member of Dickey Betts and Great Southern for a decade, Andy Aledort, and Alan Paul, ABB biographer and author of One Way Out: The Inside History of the Allman Brothers Band.
Commenting on Betts, Jaimoe shared via a press release, “I enjoyed playing music with Richard for 50 years,” He concluded, “We got to send the old boy off right. Rest in peace to my old friend.”
Offering additional background on the group’s circumstantial start, Paul recalled, “We started this band in the shadow of Gregg Alman and Butch Trucks’ 2017 passings to honor their memories and celebrate the music of the Allman Brothers Band, which has been central to all of our lives.”
He continued, “We love Jaimoe as a person and as a musician and are beyond excited to have him join us for what will be a very special night honoring the music and legacy we care so much about.”
