Jacob Collier Taps Lizzy McAlpine and John Mayer for Radiant New Song “Never Gonna Be Alone”

This morning, Jacob Collier released his first new song of 2022 “Never Gonna Be Alone” (Feat. Lizzy McAlpine & John Mayer). The release of the tender track also marks the first official single from Collier since he earned an Album of The Year Nomination at the 2021 Grammys.

“Never Gonna Be Alone” is a sun-drenched slow-burning tune co-written by Collier and McAlpine and features Mayer on guitar. The single is overflowing with the expert harmonies and pristine production that Collier has used to captivate fellow musicians like Lizzo, SZA and Chris Martin along with fans across the world. Together with McAlpine, Collier sings on the track reflecting on a singular moment where they found love and expressed the desire to return to that place. They harmonize, “Take me back to the window take me back to the door/ You’ll be right where I left you sitting on the floor/ Now I’m never gonna be alone.” Mayer’s guitar work following the verse is unmistakable.

“Here’s a song I wrote last year, in the depths of lockdown, with my dear friend Lizzy McAlpine. I wanted to explore the deep, vivid emotional world of isolation, loss and memory, blurring the lines between reality and imagination, by piecing together a tapestry of soft orchestral sounds,” shared Collier in a statement. “It speaks to my experience of the world as a hugely beautiful and fragile place, and has helped me process some of the grief I think we’re all feeling for our pasts and futures, in a myriad of different ways.”

Despite “Never Gonna Be Alone” being his first new song of 2022 Collier has remained busy, as usual. He was recently named “The Colorful Mozart of Gen Z” by The New York Times, and just last month, Collier wrapped up the North American leg of his biggest tour to date. The U.K. and European leg of the tour will begin this month and run through the summer into fall.
