Antone’s 50th Presents Chicago Bound: Honoring Muddy, Cliff & Blue is a special live compilation that honors the renowned Austin nightclub. The 11 tracks on the record present music from Billy F Gibbons and the BFGS, Doyle Bramhall II, Kim Wilson & the Fabulous Thunderbirds, John Primer, Anson Funderburgh and others.
The first 7” single from the recording in an all-star interpretation of Clifton Chenier’s Zydeco composition “One Step at a Time.” The track features Ivan Neville and CC Adcock with Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, featuring Jimmie Vaughan on harmonica.
Richards says of the song: “Zydeco and Clifton Chenier have been with me since forever! It’s Deep South with some interesting French. I love the session, the track rocks. There are some names I know on it with me, and CC did a great job putting it all together.”
Adcock adds, “So, if at any point in my life someone would have told me that I’d one day be on a record duetting with Ivan Neville (or any Neville for that matter!) on a Clifton Chenier tune... and that the most illustrious of all the rock wingmen, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, would be backing us with their trademark raunch n' weave... on top of the dream Lafayette band held down by the mighty OG zydeco rhythm architect “Big” Robert St. Julien on drums (from Clifton’s classic era band) and next generation protégé Chuckie Bush (from Beau Jocque’s classic era band) on bass and my best brothers for life, Steve Riley and Curley Taylor on accordion and scrub board, respectively... and that somehow Jimmie Vaughan would be making his harmonica recording debut laying down an immaculate Jimmy Reed “hit blues” harmonica top-line... and that the track would be coming out as a single on the Antone’s 50th anniversary compilation alongside other heroes and best friends like Billy Gibbons, Lil’ Doyle Bramhall, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and John Primer (who was onstage at The Checkerboard Lounge in Chicago that legendary night that Keith & Ronnie and The Stones popped in to jam with Muddy)... Well, I’d swore I’d died and gone to blues heaven. Which I reckon I can now fatefully do. Literally, Lawd have mercy!"
Proceeds from the single will benefit the Clifton Chenier Memorial Scholarship at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette. The limited-edition run of 500 vinyl discs (available for pre-order now). The B-side, “Bayou Congeaux” will be exclusively available as the digital single.
