In 2000, the Coen brothers’ O Brother, Where Art Thou? spurred a revolution in American roots music. The groundbreaking musical film recast Homer’s Odyssey in the Depression-era South with a T Bone Burnett-produced soundtrack of period folk music, featuring some of the foremost talents in traditional music and its contemporary innovation; upon its release, the album became every bit as beloved as the film it accompanied, stoking a new Americana revival that rages on to this day. In light of this legacy, the Grand Ole Opry has unveiled its plans to mark the soundtrack’s 25th anniversary with a one-night-only musical celebration.

On Saturday, Feb. 28, Nashville, Tenn’s Grand Ole Opry House will host a star-studded reunion show for the ensemble that brought the 8x Platinum O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack to life, alongside a stacked cast of the album’s famous fans. Performers in the supergroup reviving their contributions to the project will include Dan Tyminski (who provided lead vocals for protagonist Ulysses Everett McGill in The Soggy Bottom Boys), The Whites, Chris Thomas King and Alison Krauss and Emmylou Harris, reprising their role as the sirens. Iconic actor Tim Blake Nelson, who starred as Delmar O’Donnell and sang lead on “In the Jailhouse Now,” will also join in the festivities.

The newcomers supporting the expansive revival effort include such celebrated artists as the Del McCoury Band, Jerry Douglas, Molly Tuttle, Sarah Jarosz, Old Crow Medicine Show, Colin Linden, Fisk Jubilee Singers, The Fairfield Four and progressive bluegrass firebrand Billy Strings. Strings thoroughly expressed his love for O Brother, Where Art Thou? With his unforgettable 2024 Halloween performances, which tapped a litany of special guests including King, Douglas and Nelson for a two-night theatrical tribute to the film.

Tickets for the Grand Ole Opry’s anniversary celebration for O Brother, Where Art Thou? are available now. Learn more about the special event at opry.com.
