Grahame Lesh & Friends’ Weekend in the Northeast
After Grahame Lesh & Friends’ East Coast arrival on Thursday, May 7, at Brooklyn Bowl New York, the ensemble kept up appearances over the weekend. Following their regional opener, participating artists and special guests flooded Ardmore Music Hall’s Unlimited Devotion benefit for the Rex Foundation and Camp Winnarainbow. Then, the group kept the good times rolling during their follow-ups on Saturday, May 9, at the Regent Theatre in Arlington, Mass., and Sunday, May 10, at StageOne in Fairfield, Conn.
Friday’s appearance at Ardmore Music Hall was billed to feature Jackie Greene, John Kadlecik, Jennifer Hartswick, Elliott Peck, Justin Mazer, Nathan Graham, Damian Calcagne, and Brian Rashap, who delivered a collection of songs that leaned into Grateful Dead concert standards and select material borrowed from the bandleader’s late father. Highlights included
There and Back Again cut “No More Do I,” cosmic exploration via “Jupiter” and “Unbroken Chain.”
Saturday’s concert at the Regent Theatre in Arlington, Mass., nearly mimicked the content presented during the band’s Big Apple arrival. The show included a rare “Equinox,” originally written by Phil Lesh with lyricist Peter Monk for the Terrapin Station sessions, which helped set the night apart from the concert that came before their trek further north.
The aforementioned oddity was also represented on Sunday’s setlist, taking the second slot after “St. Stephen.” The ensemble’s Sunday, May 10, performance at StageOne in Fairfield, Conn., resumed their affinity for select Grateful Dead cuts, “Cassidy,” “Eyes of the World,” “Cumberland Blues,” “Unbroken Chain,” and reprised newer arrivals that could ensue as setlist staples, “Equinox,” “Shaman’s Song,” and “Jupiter.”
