Grahame Lesh & Friends celebrated Halloween at Nantucket, MA’s The Muse, offering a Mario Kart-themed show dubbed Guitariokart 64. Developed and arranged by Grahame Lesh & Friends guitarist Justin Mazer and Pat Finnerty, Mario Kart gameplay was projected across TV screens throughout the venue, with the band jamming along to the on-screen action. Fully leaning into the fun, the ensemble took the stage in costume as a full Mario Kart lineup—guitarist/vocalist Grahame Lesh as Wario, drummer/vocalist Nathan Graham as Luigi, keyboardist Damian Calcagne as Bowser, Mazer as Yoshi and bassist Scott Padden as Mario.
The musicians kicked things off with “Ramble On Rose,” before moving through “Deal,” “Mountain Song,” “Wharf Rat” and a set-closing segue from “Help on the Way” into “Slipknot!” as well as the first of two “Luigi’s Raceway” interludes. Meanwhile, the second set split “Eyes of the World” with “Koopa Troopa Beach,” then worked “Cumberland Blues” around “Moo Moo Farm,” capping things off with “Unbroken Chain,” Phil Lesh’s beloved Grateful Dead original. The encore circled back to “Luigi’s Raceway,” before flowing into “The Greatest Story Ever Told” and a show-closing take on another signature Phil Lesh-penned Dead original, “Box of Rain.”
Next week, Grahame Lesh & Friends will head to Los Angeles for sold-out shows at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever from November 12-14.
