On June 6 and 7, Goose hiked into the mountains for a two-night stand at Greenwood Village, Colo.’s famed Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre. The indie-groove quartet’s only stagings in the region packed a whole series’ worth of thrills into their whistle-stop engagement, lining a total of four sets with covers and unexpected variations, plus live debuts of a Creedence Clearwater Revival classic and Vasudo rarity that added to their ever-expanding repertoire.
Goose took the stage on Friday, June 6, with the evergreen show opener “Drive,” which has now arrived as an introduction in its four presentations. From this expansive 20-minute entry point, the band sped off into the Everything Must Go album closer “How It Ends,” then threw the crowd a curveball with their first-ever cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Suzie Q,” drawn from their 1968 self-titled debut.
After lighting up “Turbulence & The Night Rays,” Goose peered back to their origins with the first 2025 performance of “Indian River,” their 11-year original. This landmark return was also the song’s first appearance with its Sanskrit verse since June 2021, which primed the group for a seamless segue into the set-closing “Animal.” The second set ensued with an unfinished “Tumble” that fell away near the halfway mark to perfectly merge into the Vasudo classic “Factory Fiction” and the band’s 11th cover of My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James’ “State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U.).”
Goose brought the energy to a fever pitch with a fast and unfinished “Echo of a Rose,” then channeled that energy into their fourth all-time cover of Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer,” served up to mark the 50th anniversary of the legendary new wave outfit’s first ever CBGB’s performance. A cascade back into “Echo of a Rose” and “Factory Fiction” picked up where the earlier treatments left off to meticulously collect loose ends into a masterful finale, punctuated by an encore of “Arcadia.”
On Saturday, Goose greeted the Colorado crowd with a moody, stirring opener of “Your Direction,” which built steam for 15 minutes and then gave way to the new entry “Torero,” which they debuted at their Viva El Ganzo signature festival in May. “My Mind Has Been Consumed By Media,” another rare and recent cut, primed the band for an electrifying four track medley to wrap the first frame, connecting “Rockdale,” “Dustin Hoffman,” their third-ever version of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” and the ripping jam conclusion of “Into the Myst,” which die-hards will note made a version from June 3 whole.
Goose’s second Saturday set packed a lot of expansive jamming into only a fistful of songs, beginning with a blowout “Big Modern!” This set off a string of total transitions into the band’s second performance of “fast:slow,” setlist staple “Creatures” and a fiery treatment of Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman.” The quartet closed out the show with its first performance of the long-lost Vasudo entry “Jed Stone,” performed five times by the proto-Goose group between 2012 and 2022, followed by a grand finale of “The Empress of Organos.”
Goose will return to the stage tomorrow, June 10, for the first of two performances at Chesterfield, Mo.’s The Factory. They’ll keep the marathon coming with 16 further engagements through the end of August, including high-profile festival bookings like Newport Folk and their first headline performance at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
