On Friday night in Bend, Goose kicked off the first of two shows at the Hayden Homes Amphitheater. This performance also represented the second of two consecutive gigs in which Greensky Bluegrass opened for the quartet. Members of the two groups shared the stage at the Oregon venue.
Three songs into Greensky’s set, Goose guitarist Rick Mitarotonda appeared on electric guitar for an extended version of “What You Need” from 2019’s All For Money. Another guest appearance took place later in the set when Greensky dobro player Anders Beck introduced his dog Bernie to the crowd.
Later on, during Goose’s first set, Beck and Greensky Bluegrass mandolin player reciproctaed the earlier sit-in by appearing on a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City.” The Goose performance also featured a debut cover, as the group offered up a version of Punch Brothers’ “My Oh My.”
Goose’s second set also proved memorable, as it consisted of just three songs. The group opened open with a 24-minute version of “Dripfield,” which remained unfinished as the jam led into a 23-minute take on “Good2B.” Then a nearly 20-minute take on “Arrow” closed things out before an “Arcadia” encore.
Tonight Goose will appear at the KettleHouse Amphitheater in Bonner, MT. Greensky Bluegrass will next appear on Thursday at GLC Live at 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids, MI.
