Film on Legendary Concert Promoter and Impresario Ron Delsener to Premiere at Tribeca Film Festival

Music lovers, history buffs and concert-goers are in for a treat as the Tribeca Film Festival is set to premiere Ron Delsener Presents on Sunday, June 11, at the Indeed Theater at Spring Studios in New York City. The documentary will showcase the life and work of legendary concert promoter Ron Delsener, who has been at the forefront of the outdoor concert scene since 1964.

The film features a party of legends from Cher to Gene Simmons, Roger Daltrey, and Simon and Garfunkel to help showcase the career retrospective and, in doing so, attempts to completely embodies the personality of its subject, though with someone as impactful as Delsener it seems a daunting task.

Delsener’s career in concert promotion started with The Beatles’ first outdoor concert performance at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium in Queens, where he worked for the promoter. This was followed by shows featuring the likes of Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Woody Allen, and Frank Sinatra, among others.

In 1966, Delsener created and produced the highly successful $1 per ticket concert series at Wollman Ice-Skating Rink in Central Park. This series saw every major contemporary artist of the time perform, including Joni Mitchell, Louis Armstrong, Otis Redding, and Led Zeppelin.

Delsener continued to make his mark on the music scene by producing the first free popular music concerts in Central Park in 1967. He was also awarded a three-year exclusive contract to renovate the Jones Beach Amphitheatre in Wantagh, Long Island, and present all concert events, as well as becoming the exclusive booker for all programs of popular and contemporary music at the Garden State Arts Center in New Jersey. In addition to large outdoor shows, Delsener remains active in the production of all concerts booked through Ron Delsener Presents in the New York/New Jersey area.

The documentary promises to give viewers an in-depth look into the life of a legendary figure in the music industry who helped direct the live music business from disorganized, low-fi, small rooms and nightclubs to arenas, international tours and gorgeous venues across the country in what would go on to be multi-billion dollar industry.
