On June 18, Aung San Suu Kyi, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, will be celebrated in Dublin at the Electric Burma concert. Organizer and promoter, Bill Shipley says, “Her courage and leadership have been a source of inspiration not only to people in Ireland but all those who value democracy, freedom of speech and an end to military rule.”

Artists from all over the world including Bob Geldof, Damien Rice, Angelique Kidjo, Lupe Fiasco, Vanessa Redgrave, Jack Gleeson (of HBO’s Game of Thrones), Tibetan singer/songwriter Yungchen Lhamo, violinist Sarah Nemtanu, cellist Vyvienne Long, pianist Romain Descharmes, and Ireland’s own Riverdance will perform in her honor.

Electric Burma will include a live performance of “Toast to Freedom,” the new commemorative song, written by veteran guitarist/producers Carl Carlton (Robert Palmer, Eric Burdon, Keb Mo) and Larry Campbell (Levon Helm Band, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello). The song celebrates the 50th anniversary of Amnesty International.

A highlight of Electric Burma will be Aung San Suu Kyi’s acceptance of Amnesty International’s most prestigious award, the Ambassador of Conscience Award, presented by longtime Amnesty International campaigner, Bono.
