Eggy delivered their first performance during Widespread Panic’s destination concert event, Panic en la Playa, on Wednesday, Jan. 21. The band’s festival debut found the four-piece leaning into both original music and cover songs, including borrowed numbers from Crosby, Stills & Nash, Brazilian drummer Airto Moreira, and Little Feat. 

The group’s afternoon performance set course with originals “Peace Upon Us,” “Burritos El Chavo 2,” and “Silver Steed (My Blue),” before knocking into Crosby, Stills & Nash’s sailor anthem, “Southern Cross.” Without pause, they tacked on their fourth-ever live delivery of Airto Moreira’s “Partido Alto,” before looping back to “Southern Cross” and “Silver Steed (My Blue)” for a full finish. 

On the other side of the sequence, Jake Brownstein, Dani Battat, Mike Goodman and Alex Bailey positioned “Falsities and Fire” as the initial piece of a six-move suite, composed of “Parceled Serotonin,” “Voice of Them All” with a tease back to “Silver Steed (My Blue),” before integrating a return to “Parceled Serotonin.” Without coming to a full stop, they cover Little Feat’s “Time Loves a Hero” before returning to their own archive with a set ending “Trixieville.”

Following Eggy’s first appearance at Widespread Panic’s destination concert event, they will stick around for their second call to the stage, this time a two-hour slot, 12 a.m. to 2 a.m., following the host band’s final festival performance on Friday, Jan. 23.
