Eggy Bust Out Little Feat’s “Dixie Chicken” for First Time Since 2018

On Sunday, April 13, Eggy brought their current tour to The Barrelhouse Ballroom in Chattanooga, Tenn. The band presented two frames of music, each of which flexed specific pulls and teases that reflected a debut play and a bust out of borrowed material that had not been performed in over six years by the New Haven, Conn. four-piece.
Before drumming up the aforementioned notes, Eggy sought the night’s entry point on “Trixieville” and proceeded with more originals, “Solid Ground” and “Laurel.” Next, they debuted a cover of Mk.Gee’s “Candy” and ultimately returned to their self-penned options on “Woah There” and “Gentle Clown.” The latter featured teases, including Little Feat and “Razi” interludes, songs that would arrive in full bloom during the night’s second set.
Without giving their bust out entirely away, Eggy revved up their second frame with “Shadow,” twisting notes of their follow-up into the number before submitting into Little Feat’s “Dixie Chicken” for the first time since August 10, 2018, effectively ending a 469 show gap in performances. The lyrics helped the band serve a homage to the location, with mention of “the bright lights of Memphis” and “If you’ll be my Dixie chicken, I’ll be your Tennessee lamb.”
The first set’s teases continued to blossom with a complete run-through of “Razi,” which saw complimentary nods to the concert debut of “Candy” before becoming “Shadow,” in a sequence that was performed without pause. Eggy played through “Must Come Down” merged into “Smile” before the final string of plays, “Shatter” > “Dixie Chicken” tease > “Shatter.”
For the night’s encore, Eggy worked through “Wayless,” which arrived with interludes of “Dixie Chicken” to solidify the concert’s bust out as a meaningful move for the band and audience.
Next, Eggy will perform at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia on April 25. Tickets remain on sale.
