Dolly Parton Takes “Jolene” to Rock Era with New Recording, Featuring Måneskin

On Friday, Nov. 17, Dolly Parton dropped her highly-anticipated covers album, Rockstar, an extensive set of popular material steeped in rock-and-roll classics. As a follow-up, the musician has shared a pair of bonus tracks off the set: Eddie Money’s “Two Tickets to Paradise” and her highly coveted stinger, “Jolene,” featuring Italian ensemble Måneskin.

The latter cover presents a stunning adaptation of the classic “Jolene” composition, stretched to highlight shared lines from Måneskin lead singer Damiano David and Parton. The pair meld their vocals to create harmonious radiance on the revitalized 1973 original, ranked No. 217 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest songs ever.

The aforementioned song is exclusively available with the digital download Rockstar set via Parton’s official website. Though the country star debuted a preview via Instagram yesterday, drawing attention to the gratitude added to the collection, the song is only offered in said format.

Rockstar presents 21 covers, with the likes of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Lizzo, Sting, Chris Stapleton, Debbie Harry, Elton John, John Fogerty, Joan Jett, Steven Tyler, Miley Cyrus, Peter Frampton and Kid Rock assisting on choice numbers. Parton and company will tackle a wide range of iconic genre-specific anthems, from “Free Bird” to “Purple Rain” and “We Are the Champions.”
