Dickey Betts Responds to Gregg Allman: ‘I have no problem with Gregg’
After Gregg Allman said the feud between him and former ABB guitarist Dickey Betts was “behind them now,” the guitarist has responded with a statement in the Ticket Sarasota.
“I have no problem with Gregg, never have,” Betts said in a statement. “Sure, it would be fun to play with him again. We’ll see where it goes.”
Betts’ longtime manager Davis Spero told the Ticket that the guitarist seemed “quite pleased” that Gregg Allman is playing “Southbound” at his shows. “I could feel him smile when I talked to him last night,” Spero said. The manager also noted, “As far as Dickey’s concerned, he’s retired until he’s unretired, and I don’t know when or if that time will come.”
On Betts, Allman initially told The Wall Street Journal, “I haven’t seen him in a very long time and would be very open to it. In fact, I would love to play with him again.” When asked to clarify, Allman said that it’d be “just to jam” but he also added that he’d “love to see Betts. We had our ups and down and all our demons. We had our problems, our ins and outs and our public embarrassments on both sides. But that’s all way behind us now. There’s nothing at all wrong with forgive and forget.”
