Dean Budnick Talks Phish’s 1994 “Tweezerfest” at The Bomb Factory on ‘Undermine’ Podcast with Tom Marshall and Benjy Eisen

Today, the editor-in-chief of Relix, Dean Budnick, appears on the Tom Marshall-hosted Undermine podcast alongside Benjy Eisen (co-author of Bill Kreutzmann’s Deal and a longtime Relix contributor in his own right) to discuss Phish’s legendary Bomb Factory gig in Dallas on May 7, 1994.

On the current season of Undermine, the program’s hosts have been diving head-first into Phish’s past by highlighting various notable shows leading up to the band’s fabled fall 1997 tour (and those concerts will then be examined on their 25th anniversaries).

The second set of the Bomb Factory show featured an explosive rendition of “Tweezer,” which stretched and morphed for over an hour.

On today’s episode, Budnick appears virtually on camera with Eisen and Marshall and offers a first-hand account of the concert, as well as that weekend’s three night Texas run, which he attended.

The trio also delves into the band’s ‘90s background, leading up to “Tweezerfest,” sharing stories and memories of that moment in Phish history.

Budnick released his podcast Long May They Run in 2019, focusing on Phish during its first season. As of late, he co-authored The Music Never Stops: What Putting on 10,000 Shows Has Taught Me About Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Magic with Relix Publisher and celebrated concert promoter Peter Shapiro.
