Dead Heads for Kamala to Host Virtual Rally Tonight, Featuring Live Music, Song-Themed Topics and More
A virtual rally and fundraiser in support of Presidential hopeful and current U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will occur this evening, Tuesday, August 13, at 5 pm PST / 8 pm EST. The two-hour event, slated as Dead Heads for Kamala: Get on the Bus with Us, will lean into the core of Grateful Dead music. It is intended to reflect her leadership and vision for the future by embracing “Uncle John’s Band,” posing the question, “Are you kind?”
Steeped in community value, not unlike a Grateful Dead concert, Dead Heads for Kamala presents as an engaging way for fans of the peace-loving San Francisco jamband to unite, engage, and mobilize support for their chosen candidate. Tonight’s event will feature a range of band enthusiasts providing commentary on key political issues ahead of the 2024 election.
Music is at the core of the event, blending speeches with special live performances from select bands and artists. Carrying over the Grateful Dead theme, discussions have been paired with Dead songs: “Fire on the Mountain” addresses environmental concerns, “Eyes of the World” is used as a lens for arts and culture, “Cumberland Blues” functions as an entry for advancements in the tech world, while “Let it Grow” opens discussions about the next generation.
“Ripple” emphasizes the apt need for unity and inclusivity as we navigate toward an increasingly compassionate global community. Other topics include “Help on the Way” as a catalyst for health conversation, “Promised Land” to illuminate humanity and immigration policies, “Standing on the Moon” to delve into global relations, and “Man Smart Woman Smarter” to push talks related to women’s rights and representation to the forefront.
“I kicked off organizing this because our country is comprised of many people from all kinds of backgrounds and Kamala espouses honesty, integrity, and dedication. Standing up for the rights of others, and not afraid to tackle the tough issues,” said organizing committee founder Steven Leventhal. “There are lots of issues and political races up and down the ballot that also deserve our attention. The future of this country is truly at stake here. I encourage everyone to get involved at the local level and see what you can do to protect Democracy.”
