Dead & Company Share Playing in the Sand Update

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and concern over the spread of the omicron variant, Dead & Company have announced they will offer a blanket refund to anyone who no longer wishes to attend Playing in the Sand, Jan. 7-10 and Jan. 13-16 in Cancun, Mexico. They have also released a limited amount of packages for those interested in attending the event.

The shows will take place outside on the beach, where winds average 15 mph, giving concert-goers the opportunity to spread out and feel comfortable in their surroundings.

Fans can expect three nights of Dead & Company concerts, in addition to special performances by Celisse, The Main Squeeze, Margo Price, Tropidelic and LP Giobbi. See the full schedule below.

Dead & Company received high praise for their safety protocol while on tour over the summer. Now they’re continuing with “extremely strict safety protocols” as they prepare for two music-filled weekends south of the border.

They were the first artists to require vaccines on tour (before Live Nation and AEG announced their requirement). The band was also among the first to cancel their 2020 tour, allowing fans to get refunds right away, and Playing in the Sand is expected to implement all of the most recent safety precautions.

Despite the rumors, Dead and Company have confirmed that John Mayer will perform alongside Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti in January.

Ticket holders were sent an email outlining the new safety protocols and refund policies. Refunds requests must be submitted by 5 p.m. ET on Dec. 31.
