Dead & Company Close Out Colorado Run with Jay Lane Subbing for Bill Kreutzmann

Dead & Company wrapped up their time in Colorado on Saturday, Oct. 23 continuing with their amended lineup, as Jay Lane (currently of Wolf Bros, formerly of Primus) sits in for drummer Bill Kreutzmann. Lane first joined the band on Oct. 19 at Red Rocks.

“Our brother @billkreutzmann continues to be on the mend from a non-Covid related illness and will be back with us in Phoenix,” Dead & Company wrote ahead of the show. “In the meantime, Jay Lane will sit in again.”

Musically, the Saturday gig – hosted by Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre inGreenwood Village, Colo. – featured some of the most beloved originals in covers in the Grateful Dead songbook.

“Iko Iko” opened, followed by “Shakedown Street.”

Later, a nice “Crazy Fingers”> “Here Comes Sunshine”> “Going Down The Road Feelin’ Bad” closed the first half.

To restart the party, Dead & Company started the second set with “Truckin'”> “Viola Lee Blues” and continued to give Lane (and remaining Rhythm Devil Mickey Hart) some creative liberty with a mid-set “Drums”> “Space.”

The show wrapped up with “Cumberland Blues”> “Stella Blue”> “One More Saturday Night.”

To encore, the band bid Colorado “fare thee well” with “Brokedown Palace.”

“Thank you Colorado for a truly unforgettable week!” the band wrote afterwards. “We’ll see everyone Monday night in Phoenix! Travel safely.”
