Dave Matthews Band’s Ticketstoday to Help Move 170,000 Taylor Swift Tickets

After a storm of technical difficulties forced the general on-sale for Taylor Swift’s upcoming The Eras Tour, Ticketmaster still has enough tickets to fill several stadiums. According to Billboard, Ticketmaster will offload the 170,000 remaining seats over the next month via a 20-year-old platform, initially built for Dave Matthews Band’s fan club, called Ticketstoday.

Ticketstoday was acquired by Live Nation in 2008 and is still used by jambands, including Phish and Ween. By using the platform, Ticketmaster hopes to cut back on long fan wait times and avoid another website crash, which was caused by the massive demand for Swift’s upcoming 52 shows.

Swift’s fans who signed up for the Fan pre-sale began receiving emails on Monday, Dec. 12, with a Dec. 23 deadline to submit ticket requests. Lines for tickets will also be avoided with a select pricing option in advance. If, as expected, more fans are wanting tickets than are available a digital lottery will take place.

It’s notable that despite the difficulties and debacle of The Eras Tour’s first ticket-sale Ticketmaster still managed to sell over two million tickets in 12 hours, and that a group of Swift fans has filed a lawsuit following the initial sale alleging price fixing, antitrust violations and fraud. Relix editor Dean Budnick interviewed Sen. Amy Klobachur about some of these issues for Variety.
