Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds returned to Cancún’s Moon Palace Resort last night for their second performance in the 2026 Dave & Tim Riviera Maya destination event. The storied duo properly set off their ninth annual getaway on Thursday with a thrilling 26-track set, featuring two guest spots and a historic tribute to the late Bob Weir, and they maintained their momentum on Friday with another intimate and powerful showcase of their acoustic talents.
After an opening set from “discodelic” soul trio Say She She, Mathews and Reynolds stepped into the spotlight with the reliable fan-favorite “Crash Into Me,” delivered as an opener in a duo show for the first time. Reynolds led the way into that track’s Crash counterpart “Two Step” with a solo intro, then the artists worked through other tried and true classics like “Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back),” “Madman’s Eyes” and “Say Goodbye” before resurrecting 2005’s “Dreamgirl” for the first time as a duo since 2017. The artists moved from sing-alongs to display their instrumental virtuosity as Reynolds delivered a solo cover of Neil Young’s “Words (Between the Lines of Age),” and Matthews followed by donning his six-string for an extended take on “Bartender.”
At the midpoint in their performance, Matthews and Reynolds added some depth to their sound by welcoming Dave Matthews Band keyboardist Buddy Strong for a sit-in; Strong, who has been with the DMB since 2018, propelled renditions of “Grace Is Gone,” “Sweet,” “So Damn Lucky” and “When I’m Weary.” When the guitarists were alone again, they sent a chill through the warm Mexican evening with a timely cover of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s immortal protest ballad “Ohio,” unearthed for the first time since 2007 as historic civil unrest surges in response to ICE’s siege on Minnesota; to underscore their sentiment, the duo’s first treatment of the song included an interpolation of Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name.”
Reynolds took center stage with a solo medley of “Watcher of the Skies” and Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes,” then the pair bolted through an anthemic set-closing sequence of “Pay for What You Get,” “#41,” “You and Me” and finally the Under the Table and Dreaming classic “What Would You Say.” Matthews returned alone to begin the encore with his first solo version of Black Sabbath’s “Changes,” then Reynolds returned to join in a closer of “Dodo.”
